Period 33: REVISION FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER
1. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
a. Knowledge
- Review and remember some important grammar/ structures that they have studied in the first semester:
+ The simple past tense and the simple past tense with “wish” and “used to”
+ The present perfect tense.
+ The passive voice.
- Apply the grammar on doing the exercises.
b. Skills
Drill four skills
c. Behavior
Help ss to interest in learning the subjects.
2. Preparation:
a. Teacher: Textbook; Teaching plan; grammar book; workbook.
b. Students: Textbook; notebook; school things; prepare well for the new lesson.
3. Procedures

T: today we’re going to review some important grammar/ structures that you have studied in the first semester. Let’s begin the lesson.
b. New lesson
* Grammar
1. The simple past tense (20’)
T: ask Sts to retell the use, the form of the simple past tense and the structures with “wish” and “used to”
Sts: do the task.
T: give feedback and write on the board:

(+) S+ V2/ed...
( -) S+ didn’t+V0...
(?) Did+ S+ V0...?
(Wh?) Wh + did + S + V0...?
* Use: to talk about actions which happened and ended in the past or past habits.
2. The past simple with Wish
→ S+ WISH (es)+ S + PAST SIMLE
- It is used to express “wishes” which can’t come true in the present.
→ S + wish(es) + S + could + V0
- It is used to talk about the ability that can’t be able to do in the present.
3. Used to:
(+) S +USED TO + V0
(-) S + DIDN’T + USE TO + V0
(?) DID + S + USE TO + V0… ?
“Used to” is used to talk about the habits which were usually done in the past and no longer done in the present.
Sts: write the grammar in the notebook.
4. The present perfect tense
T: have Sts retell the use and the form of the present perfect tense.
Sts: do the task.
T: feedback
(Form:
(+) S+ have/ has + V3/ed...
( -) S+ have/ has...+ not +V3/ed......
(?) Have/ Has+ S+ V3/ed.......?
(Wh?) Wh + have/has + S + V3/ed…..?
Notes: I, We, You, They + have
He, She, It + has
( Usage:
- To talk about actions which happened in the past but continue up to the present or have the results in the present.
Ex: We’ve washed the dishes. (They’re clean now)
- Actions happened at an unspecified time in the past.
Ex: Have you passed your driving test?
- With references to recent time like: just, recently, already, still, yet.
Ex: I’ve just eaten bread.
- Repeated or habitual actions.
Ex: I’ve watched him on TV several times.
- We also use this tense with THIS IS (the first, the second…) time or IT IS ( the first, the second…) time.
Ex: I haven’t smoked since September.
Sts: write down the grammar.
* Exercises (17’)
Exercise 1: put the verbs in the brackets in the correct form (simple past tense or present perfect tense)
a. Last week, she (take) her children to the park.
b. My father (use/ smoke) but now he doesn’t smoke.
c. We (study) English for four years.
d. He wishes he (have) a new bike.
e. Tom (not/meet) his pen pal since last year.
f. They wish they (can/ play) soccer well.
Exercise 2: Complete the second sentence so that it has similar meaning to the first one.
a. I haven’t seen my father for one month.
– It is ____________________________________
b. Tom hasn’t had his hair cut for over three months.
– It is ____________________________________
c. I haven’t seen that
